Interdisciplinary Approach

We take an interdisciplinary approach to curriculum development, leveraging district scope and sequence guidelines and utilizing a wide range of resources. This approach facilitates the seamless integration of content areas and languages, avoiding instruction in the two program languages as separate systems. By connecting content areas and languages, we promote the development of (bi)literacy and support the implementation of effective practices for multilingual learners.

Promoting Oracy and Language Development

Our curriculum writing process prioritizes the development of strong “oracy” skills, including vocabulary focus and differentiated linguistic structures for different language functions. We embed language development and literacy strategies throughout content lessons, ensuring that students have ample opportunities to practice and refine their language skills in authentic contexts.

Hybrid Learning Spaces

We create hybrid learning spaces that facilitate cross-language connections, including Preview, View, Review activities based on the language of instruction for each content area and grade level. This approach allows students to engage with content in both languages, fostering metalinguistic awareness and supporting the development of biliteracy for all language groups.
