2024 National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) Recap.
Sandra Mercuri Educational Consultants attended in late March 2024, the 53rd Annual NABE Conference, and without a doubt, had a blast. This year’s conference theme was “Celebrating Heritage Language and Its Role,” highlighting the integration of Multilingualism, Multiliteracy, and Multiculturalism. For our team, NABE 24 was not just another conference but a unique and special opportunity to delve into the latest trends in bilingual education while fostering connections with educators from across the nation.
Many things were at stake for us at this conference: we wanted networking opportunities and learning more than anything else. We began this meaningful journey as our team prepared to share sessions such as CLLIF: A Transformative and Empowering Framework for Multilingualism and Multiliteracy in the Content Area Classroom by Dr. Mercuri and Dr. Pratts as well as Accelerating Multilingual Learners' Biliteracy Development Through Cross-Linguistic Connections. Lisbeth Bañales and Paty Fagler decided to explore Let’s talk Math! Enhancing access to mathematics for Emergent bilinguals by integrating language with content and literacy. In addition, Dr. Dawn Wink and Mili Henriquez offered Coaching in Dual Language: The What, the Why and the How; Dr. Lulu Mendez and Dr. Mercuri focused on Equitable Access for Newcomers: Framework, Systems, and Curriculum; and Omaly Isaaccura shared Writing Across All Content Areas as a Tool to Promote Language Development.
Adding to this excitement, Sandra Mercuri Educational Consultants had their booth placed within the exhibitor area - a first time for us in such a high-ranking conference. It was a big step forward in promoting bilingualism and biliteracy and also an eagerness to relate with others on a bigger scale.
We talked with people who attended the conference at our booth, demonstrating our expertise, resources, and services which are designed to support and enhance multilingual programs. It was a satisfying experience reaching out to colleagues working in similar fields, sharing ideas, and making new connections that would extend beyond the confines of this event.
As NABE 24 ended, we left with our spirits exalted and heads full of new thoughts. It reinforced our dedication to promoting a learning environment perfectly designed to meet the needs of multilingual learners. Can’t wait to see you at the next Conference.
